A Strategic Review of Early Years Investment

The Centre for Social Impact has recently completed a review of effective ‘early years’ interventions based on national and international evidence. The purpose of the review for Foundation North and NEXT Foundation was to support both Foundations in their decision-making around philanthropic investment to improve early childhood outcomes.
In addition to identifying effective interventions, the Centre was asked to provide principles and priorities for investment, describe an ecosystem of evidence-based early years interventions, and summarise current New Zealand policy and government-led investment.
“The brief from NEXT Foundation and Foundation North showed the importance placed by major philanthropic trusts on understanding effective practice to guide grant-making decisions,” Head of the Centre for Social Impact Alison Taylor says. “This strategic approach is a hallmark of contemporary philanthropic investment.”
Foundation North and NEXT Foundation are now considering the report’s recommendations with a view to identifying innovative programmes that with funding and organisational support could be scaled up for greater social impact.
